The Trimaran Family

Mobimar has built numerous single and multi hull aluminium and steel vessels, according to the client’s specifications. As we wanted to offer a boat properly tested by ourselves, we applied all of our expertise and developed an innovative trimaran vessel concept. The first boat of its kind was the ‘ORV Alwadi’, a 16 metre oil recovery support vessel built in 2008.

All of our trimaran vessels share the following properties:

• steady and soft in heavy sea
• not susceptible to slamming
• large work deck
• low fuel consumption
• ability to carry a significantly bigger crane than a corresponding single hull boat

In addition, Mobimar has developed adaptations of the trimaran vessels to address the needs of a specific application field – e.g. oil recovery, safety and rescue, marine research or offshore wind farm service. As ice limits navigation in arctic waters for several months of the year, we have also subjected the trimaran concept design to model tests at the arctic basin of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The tests have proved that the trimaran breaks ice with 40 % less energy than a conventional single hull ice breaker. This property is patented.

The length of Mobimar trimaran vessels range from 12 to 35 meters, and there are two basic models on offer in each vessel size: Work and Oil Recovery.
